My love for watercolor came to light 25 years ago when I viewed the most mesmerizing winter landscape painting I had ever seen, created by national artist, Nita Engle from Marquette, MI. I was fortunate to meet her some years later, study with her for years, and discover how she created her beautiful washes.
I just love to paint watercolors. My approach to watercolor painting has evolved to include a loose and free wet-into-wet style. Many describe my paintings as “impressionistic realism.” I tend to use a number of special techniques to simulate the randomness of my subject, always trying to maintain a sense of realism.
I was self-taught as a watercolorist. I love to travel to observe, sketch, and photograph subject matter for my paintings and have studied extensively with national artists: Nita Engle, Karlyn Holman, Maxine Masterfield and Jeanne Carbonetti. North Light Book Publishing Co. published my painting entitled “Genesis” in Splash 6, a book consisting of the work of 93 artists throughout the country.
I reside in St. Paul, MN where I maintain a working studio and teach watercolor painting classes & workshops. I am a member of the Northstar Watermedia Society. My paintings can be found in juried, solo & group shows as well as in private collections.
