        Helen Bond

Helen Bond's watercolor painting approach has evolved to include a loose and free wet-into-wet style. Her paintings can be described as "impressionistic realism." She uses a number of special techniques to simulate the randomness of her subject, always maintaining a sense of realism. Helen is essentially self-taught as a watercolorist. A native of New England, she travels to observe, sketch, and photograph subject matter for her paintings. She has studied extensively with national artists: Nita Engle, Maxine Masterfield, Jeanne Carbonetti, and Karlyn Holman. Her art has taken many directions during the last 17 years, from landscape painting to florals and onto abstracts. Recently she has returned to her love of painting the natural landscape, less realistic and more illusionary, always attempting to capture the effects of light and atmospheric conditions.

North Light Book Publishing Co. published Helen's abstract painting entitled Genesis in Splash 6, a book consisting of the work of 93 artists throughout the country. Helen has participated in numerous juried shows, group exhibits and art festivals.

A popular instructor in the Twin Cities, Helen maintains a working studio in St. Paul where she teaches watercolor painting classes and workshops. Helen is a member of the Northstar Watercolor Society and the White Bear Center for the Arts.
